Leon J. Olivier

Executive Vice President of Enterprise Energy Strategy and Business Development, Eversource Energy


In his current position, Leon J. Olivier is responsible for the company’s energy policy, long range strategic plans, competitive position and business development. Mr. Olivier’s responsibilities include enterprise-wide energy policy, strategy and development plans for addressing New England’s energy market constraints, future natural gas and electric transmission regional investments, identifying Eversource Energy’s requirements for Grid Modernization and establishing Eversource Energy’s renewable energy strategy and supporting initiatives.

Olivier served as executive vice president and chief operating officer for Eversource Energy’s operating companies from May 2008 to August 2014.

Olivier served as senior vice president and chief nuclear officer of the Northeast Nuclear Energy Company from 1998 to March 2001. He was responsible for the direction, management, performance, safety, and profitability of the Millstone nuclear organization. From April 2001 to September 2001, he served as senior vice president of Entergy Nuclear Northeast.

Olivier came to Eversource Energy with 29 years of experience at Boston Edison, where he was the senior vice president – Nuclear. He had overall responsibility for the nuclear organization, including the successful operation of the Pilgrim Station nuclear facility in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

While at Boston Edison, he served as a Nuclear Regulatory Commission licensed senior reactor operator, vice president of Operations and senior vice president of their Nuclear Business Unit.

A native of Massachusetts, Olivier received a Master of Business Administration degree from Northeastern University and received an honorary doctorate degree in Public Service from Bridgewater State College.

Olivier serves on the Board of Directors of the Association of Edison Illuminating Companies, ESCO Technologies Inc., Essex Financial Asset Management Firm, New England Air Museum, Bushnell Center for Performing Arts.  He is a former member of the Board of Directors of Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London, Connecticut, and former Board for the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra and former Chairman of the Metro Hartford Economic Growth Council and former Vice Chair of the Metro Hartford Alliance and former Chair of the Eastern Connecticut Chamber of Commerce. He resides in Old Lyme, Connecticut, with his wife Bernadette.
